Stuff and updates and venting.

Yay! The journal has been claimed! No more worries.

Yesterday, we saw a bird flying backwards, the wind was that strong.

I definitely don't like the cold - do not miss that part of the Midwest.

Someone told me they will be giving the gift I worked hard and made for them for a secret santa exchange to their friend. I think that was supposed to make me happy. It did not. If you re-gift - one of my all time pet peeves - please don't tell the person who gave it to you for heaven's sake. That's just rude.

I won a giveaway from one of my all time favorite shops - the little red door. What a nice early Christmas present - more tiny houses for my collection. :) No pictures, 'cause I already uploaded today - it's a pain doing it more than once a day.

And...I have a bunch of Christmas cards I made and decided to give away. If you would like one to keep or send yourself, please go to my shop.

A WTHeck and a "well, that's just stupid"

Yesterday, Friday, we needed to take middle daughter to campus to get some things taken care of before the fall. It was going to take awhile, so, we grabbed a snack and waited for her in the student union. When I went to use the restroom, I found the lady's room was locked. Not the men's, just the ladies. Go downstairs and find the same thing. WTHeck??

This has happened before, when we were there on the weekend. It was after 3 p.m., there were still many students, etc., walking around. I don't get it. Why just the lady's and not the men's. If it's some safety issue, it's not very effective. It's just as easy to drag someone into the men's room, you know?

Also, if you watch the SciFi channel, you may have noticed the change to SyFy - still pronounced SciFi. Well, that's just stupid. We laugh and call it siffy 'cause that's what it says - siffy. I found out some supposed reasoning behind this move which also ties into why SGAtlantis was cancelled before it's time. Demographics. Now, this is what's going around the web from fans and some articles, but, apparently, we old fogies of 30, 40, and 50 aren't good enough for their advertisers. They're trying to get the young'un's. How to do that? Cancel good shows and change the spelling of your name to something "hip" (oh, and make and show really bad "B" movies that just make you laugh). It's just stupid.

Okay, I've said my peace.

Tea Pockets and Girl Scout Cookies

Introducing - Pockets. First up, Tea Pockets. These are really fun to make. And, they're not just for tea, either.

Also, we looked for Girl Scout Cookies this week and found out that different areas of the country get different cookies. We don't get "real" Girl Scout Cookies - you know the ones with the fancy names - tagalongs, trefoils, etc. No, we get these crappy, full of corn syrup, generic, ones with names like - peanut butter cookies?!?!?! It turns out that there are TWO companies that make the cookies for the Girl Scouts and they ship to different parts of the country. So, I'm on the lookout for anyone with access to the REAL cookies. Anyone?? Bueller??

Post Halloween Post

Belated Happy Halloween. Hope everyone had a good time.

I miss the days before everyone just went to the mall for trick or treating. We had, I think, five groups of kids last night. Five. I remember when my girls were little and the streets were crowded and my 2-year-old took off after "Barney" 'cause she thought he was real. The mall is just not the same.

We still have pumpkin carving, though. :) Here is the work of child #1 and child #3:

Going back to basics.

I will not be making any more beaded items for my shop (with the exception of the red velvet cake gumball bead). I have put the gumball beads on sale. I will follow with the rest in the near future. The bead stuff will stay in the shop until they sell, I just won't be adding any new bead stuff so, once they're gone, they're gone.

They have been on Modish and Cuteable and the Etsy front page. I've listed and relisted and promoted and promoted and promoted. Still no sales. I honestly thought they would be a hit. Not so much. Lot's of nice comments on them. They are fun to make, but, labor intensive. I think they would do well at a show, but, I can't afford to participate in the shows here($300+ fees - I don't think so), nor can I afford or have the time to travel. I may be hasty on this, but, to be frank, I need to make money and I can't waste my time.

Anywho, I am going back to the roots of the shop - paper and yarn. A new series of paintings and prints. Less expensive. Easier to move.

Thanks for listening.

Pants sizes

Remember when a size 6 was considered skinny? And now an actress has to be a 2 or she's "huge". Well, they're not really 2's. They're 6's. How, you say? Well, recently, I found a bunch of old clothes packed away. Among them a pair of my old "skinny jeans" from some 20 years ago. They were my favorite pair of jeans, ever. You know the ones that made you look really good. Of course, they don't fit anymore. sigh. I gave them to my 18 year old daughter to try on. She couldn't button them. The point? Well, she's a size 3. The pants - a size 7. Yeah, a size 7. What the heck? Sizes have shrunk a whole 4 degrees? So, see, if a 7 is now a 3 then a 6 is a 2. But, does that make my 10 a 14? How depressing. Especially when I just lost 20 lbs. to fit in those 10's. Stupid marketing ploys.

Missed Treasury and Google - a rant

I almost had my Hawaii treasury last night, but, with 341 lists and 40 minutes to go, it cycled. Of course, I missed it because I thought I had 40 minutes and was looking at another window. When I checked on it, it was back up to over 500. This happens because people with lists that aren't going to expire in time, delete their lists so they can get another one. This causes the treasury to cycle early. I don't know about you, but, I think this shouldn't be tolerated. I have never and would never do this. It is cheating and very selfish. Am I the only one who thinks so?

Also found something on Google maps that is bothering me. When my daughter went to Google to look up directions to get to her friend's house, she discovered that certain cities (ours included) now have a feature called "street view". This is literally a view of the street as if you were standing right there. Your house is right there in clear view right down to your front door and the vehicles in your driveway. This is very disturbing and dangerous. And an invasion of privacy. If you scroll down, you can see how they are doing this. A panaramic camera is mounted on top of a vehicles(looks like a car) and they are literally driving down the street, filming. Not all areas are included. It seems to have started with western states and is moving across the country. This should be brought to officials attention. Please check if your city is included and do something if you don't feel this is right, either.

I welcome comments on these issues. However, my comments are moderated, so, please no foul language or flaming. They will be deleted. Thanks for listening.
